A silent hello

I think ill remember your picture the day I die
Our tan skin the sun blazing in the sky
Ill remember our gaze, childish, unknowing and blind
The memories weren’t always pretty but I promise to keep my thoughts kind
We’re standing in a misshapen line
Some happy, some sad and some so far from fine
Do you remember that day? Us squinting in our bathing suits in the glaring sunshine
I vividly remember the pink and red
The colours we all wore, the pattern, the sameness unsaid
We look happy and together in our haphazard formation
We have no idea that 15 years from now that picture, beautiful and untarnished will evoke such a strong emotion
They say a picture depicts a thousand words
I think they’re wrong our picture
only depicts a few:
Would have, should have, could have
